Concepts are great. Without them we tend to lack the intellectual underpinnings we need to bolster our understanding of where we are and where we need to go. But it's also crucial to understand things on an immediate, experiential, inner level.

That's where exercises come in. There is simply no reason lawyers have to neglect their inner lives just because law practice is so demanding, especially when cultivating a vibrant inner life can make it easier to handle the demands, while noticing opportunities for personal growth along the way.

Most of the exercises posted here will consist of brief sets of instructions. Give them a try and see what happens. Others are simply statements for you to sit with a while. You'll know soon enough whether or not they speak to you. In each instance, try to put judgment aside and have patience with yourself. Awareness cannot be forced, but must be allowed to emerge.

In the end, all that matters is whether or not a particular exercise works for you. If it doesn't, fine. Try something else. This page will evolve over time as new entries are added and old ones are archived. We hope that, as you continue to stop by, you find an abundance of suggestions that help bring meaning and satisfaction into your days and your professional life. It's crucial you know that you can stop. Reinforce that knowledge by doing it regularly. Stopping here is a good start.
